Clay Stevenson impresses in NHL debut despite 5-2 loss to Penguins: 'He was fantastic'
Briefly

In his debut for the Washington Capitals amidst a difficult final game of the season, goalie Clay Stevenson stood out by making 33 saves against the Pittsburgh Penguins, despite the team's overall performance faltering. With a predominantly inexperienced lineup, the Capitals struggled, losing 5-2. Coach Spencer Carbery praised Stevenson’s effort and competitive spirit during a challenging match. Although Stevenson's save percentage was suboptimal, he exhibited potential and expressed confidence in his abilities after the game, recognizing the caliber of the opponents he faced and feeling proud of his performance.
Posting an .868 save percentage in a game is usually not great for a netminder, but the Penguins dominated the Capitals at five-on-five, out-attempting them 65 to 37 and out-chancing them 30 to 15.
I thought he was fantastic all night. Just laid it on the line for us... he was really, really proud of the way that he fought and how he competed.
I thought I showed what I'm capable of out there. It's a special night, a lot of nerves. I thought I played pretty free out there, gave myself the best opportunity to make the saves in the net.
So I don't think, there's anything to really hang my head about in that game. I think that game gives me a lot of confidence to show what you can do.
