Charlie Lindgren had an emotionally charged experience as he transitioned into fatherhood with the birth of his first child while playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. On the same night that he was set to support his team in Game 5 against the Carolina Hurricanes, his wife was in the hospital giving birth. The Capitals' unexpected playoff exit, after being strong contenders, added to the emotional turmoil, highlighting the fleeting nature of team camaraderie in professional sports.
Mikky - she got to the hospital at 6 pm that night. So, yeah, had the game and then went home quick, packed a bag, got out of my suit, got into something more comfy, and headed to the hospital... It definitely made things more interesting, more complex, for sure.
I had to leave before [Game 2] because there was a chance that maybe we thought the baby was going to come that night. But she held off.
I was telling the guys after the game, it really is like a swing of emotions, because we talked about in the room after the game, it's the last time this group is going to be together.
