Caps trade for a defenseman and add four players as the draft wraps up
Briefly

The Washington Capitals made several strategic moves on the second day of the NHL draft, selecting four prospects and trading for defenseman Declan Chisholm from the Minnesota Wild. General Manager Chris Patrick emphasized the importance of this trade as a depth move ahead of free agency. They also drafted Milton Gastrin, a skilled young center, early in the second round. Gastrin, an alternate captain for his junior team, is noted for his strong competitive spirit and well-rounded skills on the ice.
"If you go into the free agent market, you don't have control over the cost," Patrick said. "So we thought this was a good chance to try and do that."
Gastrin, who turned 18 in early June, is on the younger side for this draft class. He scored at just above a point per game pace for MoDo's under-20 team this year, notching 18 goals and 42 points in 40 games while serving as an alternate captain.
