"I was thinking about it last night: We're like five to eight plays away, in the game, of getting this thing back on track and looking better," Carbery said Monday morning. "Just five to eight, defensively, offensively. Everyone's got to be a little bit better in all three zones, individually, and that'll help our group, and then our team will look a little bit better."
"When you see situations like that, you get a little bit worried when someone can't put weight on their leg," Carbery said. "... Your mind goes to, 'Oh, jeez, is this something bad?' Thankful that it's just day-to-day. Won't play tonight, but we'll see how he is tomorrow."
The Washington Capitals spent a day practicing and holding team meetings to address defensive lapses and uncharacteristic mistakes ahead of the game against the Anaheim Ducks. The coaching staff believes the team is only a handful of plays away from regaining stronger form and emphasized the need for individual improvement across all three zones. Winger Aliaksei Protas is day-to-day after a lower-body issue and will be a game-time decision after skating pregame; Tom Wilson is day-to-day after leaving the previous game and will not play that night. Charlie Lindgren is starting in net, and Dylan McIlrath is expected to draw into the lineup on the blue line.
