Capitals vs. Jets Recap: Caps Graze the Tower Against Jets in 4-3 Win
"The last time the Caps held a ceremony for Alexander Ovechkin they got clobbered by the Ottawa Senators 1-7. Tonight the Caps held a ceremony for Ovechkin again, this time for being the only player to hit 900 goals. This time they didn't disappoint, scraping out a win for the good guys. Plus: The Caps did allow three goals but they also only allowed 20 shots which is good stuff. More often than not they'd let in less than three goals."
"Minus: At the end of the first period, the Caps gave up a last minute goal after a turnover by John Carlson. Last minute or first minute goals against are killers and momentum killers. Caps had all the momentum up 2-0 and they gave the Jets a goal late, which led to the Jets tying it up less than two minutes into the second period. Caps Player of the Game: Let's go with Ovechkin who scored a goal only Ovechkin could score on the night celebrating his 900 goal mark."
Capitals celebrated Alexander Ovechkin becoming the only player to reach 900 goals and secured a hard-fought victory. The team allowed three goals but limited the Jets to only 20 shots, demonstrating effective defensive pressure. A late first-period turnover by John Carlson resulted in a Jets goal that erased a 2-0 Capitals lead and allowed the Jets to tie less than two minutes into the second period. Momentum swung after that turnover, but the Capitals managed to recover and finish with the win. Ovechkin scored a signature goal on the night honoring his 900-goal milestone and was named Player of the Game.
