Stevenson earned his first career AHL playoff victory last week, making 28 saves in a 6-4 Bears win to force a decisive Game 5 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
During the regular season for the Bears, Stevenson had an 18-8-4 record along with a 2.94 goals-against average, an .888 save percentage, and two shutouts in 33 appearances.
The Capitals are now carrying four goaltenders, including Stevenson, Gibson, Logan Thompson, and Charlie Lindgren.
Stevenson's recall comes just hours ahead of a must-win Game 5 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
