Capitals break in new red equipment at practice ahead of Screaming Eagle third jersey's debut
""Nice, nice," Brandon Duhaime said of the helmets. "I have seen the jerseys, but it'd be nice to see it on players and see it live. That would be cool.""
""No, I think just tightening a chin strap," Duhaime said. "I don't think it's too much with the new helmets nowadays. It's pretty molded to your head, so it's an easy transition.""
""Different, I like them," head coach Spencer Carbery said. "More than the navy? Yeah, I'm going to say yes. I'm going to put the reds in front of the navies. I like the look of them.""
The Washington Capitals broke in red helmets at practice ahead of wearing refreshed red, white, and blue Screaming Eagle third jerseys against the Minnesota Wild. The Screagle design updates the team’s 2020-21 Reverse Retro and retains Capitol Dome shoulder patches first used in 1997. The alternates will serve as the primary alternate for two more seasons and will be worn 15 times during the 2025-26 campaign. Multiple fan giveaways will be themed around the new look, and players noted the modern helmets require minimal break-in beyond chin-strap adjustments.
