Capitals @ Hurricanes Recap: Caps Weather the Storm in 4-1 Win
"Plus: The Washington Capitals have been struggling on special teams as of late, but not tonight! They went 1-for-5 on the power play, and the penalty kill came up big tonight and kept Carolina's power play off the board despite five chances. Minus: The Capitals probably could have tallied a few more goals and run up the score a bit, but Freddie Andersen was incredible in net for the Hurricanes tonight."
"Caps Player of the Game: There are a few options for this honor tonight, including Logan Thompson for a stellar night in net and Jakob Chychrun for scoring a PPG for his 100th career goal and taking on some extra penalty killing. However, we'll give this honor to Connor McMichael for a few things that aren't reflected on the scoresheet."
Washington's special teams reversed recent struggles with a 1-for-5 power play and a penalty kill that stopped Carolina on all five power-play opportunities. Freddie Andersen played exceptionally for the Hurricanes and made numerous saves before exiting late in the third period. Logan Thompson delivered a strong performance in net for the Capitals while Jakob Chychrun scored a power-play goal, his 100th career goal, and contributed on the penalty kill. Connor McMichael drew the penalty that produced Chychrun's goal and executed a goal-line save to preserve a two-goal lead. The Capitals limited Carolina's power play and protected a multi-goal advantage.
