At the March trade deadline, the Washington Capitals acquired winger Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a second-round draft pick. Despite modest points this season, Beauvillierâs versatility and previous playoff success made him an attractive addition. Capitals GM Chris Patrick praised Beauvillier's speed and adaptability on the ice. Although Beauvillier has faced challenges following his promising start with the New York Islanders, his past playoff performances, including game-winning goals, highlight his potential to contribute meaningfully in critical games for the Capitals this season.
"Anthony was definitely a guy that we had on our list that would be a really good fit for this type of role," Washington General Manager Chris Patrick said after the trade.
"He's a guy that gets around the ice really well. Competes hard. He's got a lot of utility as far as moving around the lineup, moving left wing, right wing."
In 2020, when the Islanders made a run to the Eastern Conference finals, Beauvillier had nine goals and five assists in 22 postseason games.
Beauvillier scored the overtime winner in Game 6 to force Game 7 and finished the run with 13 points in 19 games.
