Hide House in Venus Bay is positioned on the crest of a sand dune among coastal tea tree. Venus Bay lies on a narrow peninsula in South Gippsland, bordered by Bass Strait to the southwest and Anderson’s Inlet to the northeast. The house is oriented to capture views toward the waterways of the inlet to the north and the grassy tidal plains to the east. The design turns the building away from the strong, predominant south-westerly winds common to the area, using orientation to improve comfort and protection.
"The house enjoys views to the waterways of the inlet to the north and the grassy tidal plains to the east, while turning its back to the strong, predominant south-westerly winds that are a common feature of the area."
