Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, emphasized that Xbox Game Pass serves a specific audience, noting it isn't suitable for everyone. If a subscriber only plays a couple of games yearly, they are better off buying those games outright. Spencer revealed that while Game Pass boosts overall gaming hours on Xbox, it isn't the sole focus for Microsoft. He reiterated that multiple business models exist for gaming consumption and that Game Pass is just one of them, aimed at helping players discover and expand their game libraries.
"It's not for everybody. If you play one or two games a year, Game Pass probably isn't the right business model for you; you should just buy those two games, and that would make total sense."
"Game Pass has been an important part of that, but I don't try to solve for Game Pass specifically on its own. It's kind of part of the equation for Xbox finding new players."
