WoW's Two Main Capital Cities Could Get Major Revamps
""We're really anxious to see how players respond," Kubit said about the Silvermoon revamp. "If it's positive, I think it opens up a bunch more storytelling opportunities.""
"Gonzalez said redesigning Silvermoon was "a little scary," and that the team worried about changing too much or players feeling like something had been taken away. In the case of Silvermoon, Gonzalez said "most parts" of the old version of the city were just "smoke and mirrors.""
Blizzard is considering major revamps of the Alliance capital Stormwind and the Horde capital Orgrimmar contingent on player reaction to Silvermoon's redesign in the Midnight expansion. Silvermoon's updates feature massively improved visuals, reworked locations, and expanded versions of familiar areas such as Murder Row, the Royal Exchange, and the Bazaar. Silvermoon will act as Midnight's central hub for both factions while remaining a Horde-first city with large sections inaccessible to Alliance players. Designers expressed anxiety about overchanging the city and noted many old elements were largely cosmetic. Stormwind and Orgrimmar have already undergone multiple significant redesigns, including during Cataclysm (2010).
