Owlcat Games is developing Dark Heresy, a tactical RPG that allows players to assume the role of an Inquisitor. Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the game is set against the mysterious Noctic Aeterna and Tyrant Star, where players manage a diverse warband in their fight against corruption. Unlike its predecessor, Rogue Trader, it retains turn-based combat and consequential decision-making, though it expands on the previous game's elements. The exact release date is unknown, but it will be available on PC and next-gen consoles.
Set against the backdrop of the Noctic Aeterna and the mystery of the Tyrant Star, players will lead a warband of diverse companions in a desperate battle against heresy and corruption.
Like its predecessor... Dark Heresy features turn-based combat and 'choices that carry grave consequences.' In Warhammer 40,000, your choices are usually 'bad' or 'really bad.'
Owlcat says Dark Heresy 'greatly expands on the ideas introduced in Rogue Trader,' which was itself an extremely large and expansive CRPG.
No release window for Dark Heresy was given in the official announcement during Warhammer Skulls 2025, but the game will be coming to PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
