Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, now officially known as Cyberpunk 2, has commenced the pre-production phase, as confirmed by CD Projekt in their recent financial presentation. This announcement follows the completion of the game's conceptual phase, with a dedicated team of 96 developers working on the project, an increase from 84 in the prior few months. In context, while this number is significantly less than the 422 developers currently working on the highly anticipated Witcher 4, it underscores the sequel's importance as CD Projekt gears up for various upcoming releases, including the original game for Nintendo Switch 2.
Several weeks ago the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project's conceptual phase.
As a result, Cyberpunk 2 - previously known under the codename Project Orion - has progressed to preproduction.
The number of devs at CDPR working on Cyberpunk 2 is now at 96, up from 84 as of February this year.
It's still the studio's second biggest-staffed ongoing project, putting aside the 131 devs in the shared services sector.
