Ubisoft fires employee who publicly criticized its RTO plan

David Michaud-Cromp, a level design team lead at Ubisoft Montreal, was suspended for three days without pay after opposing the company's return-to-office mandate and has since been terminated effective immediately. A Ubisoft spokesperson said respectful feedback does not lead to dismissal and pointed to a Code of Conduct that employees review and sign annually, adding that breaches trigger established procedures and escalated measures. Ubisoft recently closed its Halifax studio after employee unionization, shut a support studio, implemented layoffs, and faced calls for further cuts. Unions called a three-day strike citing alleged penny-pinching and worsening working conditions, contributing to negative perceptions of Ubisoft's workforce management.
