"Honestly, the main thing was it left me--and my whole team at Squid Shock--feeling completely confused, abandoned, and lost right after launching our very first game. Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus was the first title Squid Shock ever released and the first game I'd ever worked on in my life. We had launched literally five days before Humble's restructuring hit,"
"My team and I were on an absolute high. We were at Bit Summit in Kyoto, Japan, meeting devs we'd idolized for years, throwing an incredible launch party, soaking in all the love from the community. And then, overnight, it felt like the ground just vanished beneath us."
Humble Games underwent a restructuring that caused mass layoffs and affected multiple projects, including Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus. Squid Shock Studios continued development on Bo and released a free Tanuki Kabuki update adding new post‑game challenges, a Kabuki‑style Boss Rush with a reactive audience, new collectibles, and a Gauntlet Mode with curated challenges and customizable difficulty. The studio had to absorb roles previously handled by the publisher after the restructuring. Creative director Chris Stair said the timing left the team confused, abandoned, and lost following their first game launch at Bit Summit. The team adapted to finish and expand the title despite sudden uncertainty.
