The Magic Of 'Tetris Effect' Seems To Be Working Again In The Demo For Its Developer's Next Game
"In 2021, Tetris Effect reimagined the classic puzzle game, keeping the core of its block-stacking gameplay intact, but giving a transcendent overhaul to the way it looks and sounds. "Transcendent" might sound like a stretch, but it really is the best way to describe the hypnotic hold it has over players in action. Now, developer Enhance is giving the same treatment to a classic PSP puzzle game with Lumines Arise."
"Lumines superficially looks a lot like Tetris. A series of blocks falls from the top of the screen and you need to arrange them in the right pattern to make them disappear to earn points. Let the blocks stack up to reach the top of the screen and the game is over. But it's a much different game in practice."
Lumines Arise revitalizes the PSP puzzle Lumines by preserving two-by-two colored block mechanics and the sweeping timeline while adding a burst system and upgraded audiovisual presentation. Blocks fall as paired two-color squares and the timeline erases formed same-color squares as it sweeps right, which enables combo building through timed stacking. The burst meter fills by creating combos and can be activated at half charge to freeze one color’s matches briefly while removing the opposite color, enabling massive combos before normal flow resumes. The demo and presentation emphasize increased immersion, strategic depth, and a November 11 launch date.
