"Speaking to Variety, Druckmann said he's hopeful that Intergalactic succeeds and that if it's a hit, "you will see it again" in the form of a possible sequel. However, whether or not a potential Intergalactic 2 is Naughty Dog's next game "right after that," Druckmann wouldn't say. "I leave that door open," he said. Druckmann said he wants to step back and assess where the team is at"
"Also in the interview, Druckmann said Naughty Dog does its best work when the team collectively gets behind a particular game or vision as opposed to making another sequel just because it can. As an example, Druckmann said when The Last of Us II was completed, the studio debated whether or not to jump right back in and make The Last of Us 3. "We had a really long period where we looked at ideas for maybe what could be in that game," Druckmann said."
Intergalactic could receive a sequel if the game is successful, though a follow-up would not necessarily be the studio's immediate next project. The studio plans to assess team condition and priorities after Intergalactic finishes before selecting the next project. Projects are chosen based on collective passion rather than making sequels for their own sake. After The Last of Us II, the studio explored ideas for a third installment and reviewed other owned franchises such as Uncharted and Jak and Daxter, but opted to develop Intergalactic because of team passion. Intergalactic has no release date and is unlikely before 2027.
