The soundtrack is positioned as a primary element of the Skate experience, with ska possibly present but not occupying a large share of the official playlist. Ska is described as polarising yet appreciated alongside Rocksteady, and the official mix may prioritize variety over a high ska percentage. Integration with console and PC streaming services enables players to play custom ska playlists while they skate. Skate launches in early access on September 16 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is a free-to-play live-service title from Full Circle, set in San Vansterdam and aimed at building a player community.
"I know ska is really polarising. I love Ska, I love Rocksteady (another genre of music), so I don't know how to answer this. I'm also bad at math, so I'm going to say it won't be a high percentage but I won't rule out ska being on the soundtrack," senior creative director Deran Chung said to VideoGamer. Skate head of creative Jeff Seamster added that the game definitely features "some" ska.
"After a couple of years in development, Skate launches in early access for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 16. This new incarnation of the series is a free-to-play live-service game from developer Full Circle, a studio that includes series veterans such as Deran Chung and Chris "Cuz" Parry. Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, the developer is placing a big bet on fostering a community of players for the next era of Skate."
