Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 marks a significant return of the skateboarding video game genre, emphasizing the unique charm the series holds. Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero's love for the sport has greatly influenced its popularization. The evolution of skating continues as new talents push boundaries, such as Gui Khury’s 1080. Caballero acknowledges the challenge of innovation in an explored field, yet believes creativity prevails for those willing to experiment. Despite risks associated with skateboarding, individuals must assess their limits, embracing the sport's inherent dangers and inspiring future generations.
"I started at age 12, and I was so stoked on it that I would be skating regardless of whether there was anyone around watching," Caballero said to ESPN. "Then, when the private skate parks popped up in the late '70s, I went every day, just to try and get better."
Caballero has felt that pressure of trying to find innovation in such a thoroughly explored space. "There were times in my career when I've thought, 'What else can be done?' But he also stands firm in his belief that creativity will always win out as long as people are willing to push themselves."
"At 60 years old, every time I step on a skateboard, it's a dangerous thing," he said. "But that's my choice, and people admire that. That admiration leads to you inspiring people, and then they become fans; that's what it's all about."
