The game allows a wide variety of activities, from studying to become a doctor to opening businesses or buying homes, while featuring pervasive crime. Long-term engagement includes 1,204 players who joined in 2004 still active, and at least one player present since day one. Since inception more than 3.6 billion criminal offenses occurred, nearly 52 million prison sentences were issued, and since August over 4.4 million buildings were burned. More than 31,000 players subscribe to support the free-to-play game, and developers have planned updates. New indie releases mentioned include News Tower from Twin Sails Interactive and Sparrow Night, along with upcoming quirky projects like Drywall Eating Simulator and a walking sim starring a grandmother.
