Niantic will overhaul Pokemon Go progression on October 15 by raising the level cap from 50 to 80 and converting existing player levels based on total earned XP so no player will drop a level. Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41–50 will be removed while new tasks will be introduced for levels 71–80. Players at level 70 and above will have increased chances to become Lucky Friends. New rewards include expanded Pokemon, item, and gift storage and avatar items begin unlocking at level 25. Limited-time bonuses and Timed Research through October 14 provide XP boosts and cosmetic opportunities.
