"These games are widely considered the "definitive" versions of the first RPGs, and still feel pretty modern by today's standards. But like all games, the reason there are two versions is so you're incentivized to trade with others, as some monsters are only catchable in one version or the other."
"Sometimes your favorite Pokémon might be trapped on one version, so it's good to know ahead of time which game has which exclusive monsters before you buy one or the other, especially if you don't have a friend to buy the other version and trade with."
Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, the 2004 remakes of the original games, are releasing on Nintendo Switch on February 27. These versions are considered definitive editions of the first-generation RPGs and remain modern in gameplay and design. The games feature version-exclusive Pokémon to encourage trading between players. Some favorite Pokémon may only be available in one version, making it important to know which exclusives exist before purchasing. Both versions will be available on the eShop following a Pokémon Presents showcase on February 27 at 9 a.m. Eastern, where announcements about upcoming games and anniversary plans are expected.
