"The system asks that you digitally own the game in question - actually having played it is not required - and as long as that criteria is met, you can drop up to 4000 words explaining how or why game X sucks/is awesome. There's also an option for a review title, and even a checkbox for whether it includes spoilers."
"Personally, there are a bunch of things I'd rather PlayStation fixed on the store first. Like, how in the hell can the web-based storefront still not display screenshots and trailers? And across both it and the console storefront, there's still no proper DLC filtering option, new games often don't appear when searching by new releases and a host of other things that need to be sorted out."
"But going back to the user reviews, they've always been a divisive thing. They've been a major part of Steam for years now, and can be extremely useful when purchasing games. On the other hand, they can also be a pain in the arse as some people don't seem to think anything other than 1 and 5 stars exist, or will leave highly negative or positive reviews based on things outside of the game."
Sony has rolled out written user reviews on the web-based PlayStation Store, following a testing period and an apparent global rollout. Reviewers must digitally own the game to submit feedback; physical ownership does not qualify. Reviews can be up to 4,000 words, include an optional title, and can be marked for spoilers. Currently reviews appear only on the web storefront and are not visible on consoles. The storefront still lacks features like web screenshots and trailers, proper DLC filtering, and reliable new-release search. User reviews are divisive: they can help buyers but can also be distorted by extreme ratings or unrelated complaints.
