Persona 5: The Phantom X, set to be released on June 26, 2025, offers a new story in a parallel universe of Persona 5. Players will assume the role of a new protagonist who lives a double life as a student and Phantom Thief. The game promises to blend traditional turn-based RPG gameplay with gacha mechanics, featuring new mini-games and a collaborative PvE mode called Velvet Trials. Players can also interact socially through a new Guild feature and can engage with characters from the original Persona 5 through special contracts.
During the day, players will build up life experience as a student and engage in various activities such as hanging out with their friends and part-time jobs, while at night, they will sneak into the cognitive dungeons to steal Treasures and change the twisted desires of corrupt adults!
Sega and Atlus also detailed some of the game's key features, which include exclusive new mini-games, a PvE game mode called the Velvet Trials, new characters, and even familiar faces from Persona 5 who are 'available through special contracts.'
In the livestream, promotional footage illustrated the parallel universe and showed a bit about the game's lore, helping players understand the new gacha mechanics and microtransactions.
Perfect World Games chose to differentiate P5X from Persona 5, citing changes to characters around fictionalized Tokyo, Japan, bosses, and more.
