New PS5 Update Is Out Now, Tightens Up System Security
"A new firmware update--Version: 25.06-12.02.00--for the PlayStation 5 console has gone live, and unsurprisingly, it doesn't do much. What this new update does is improve the security on your device, but don't expect to see any new major features added to your PS5 once it has been installed. "We've made some security fixes to the system software," reads the very succinct update notes."
"In other PlayStation news, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the first system's launch in the US and Europe, and to celebrate, Sony has unveiled new collectibles. Gaming historians will want to check out PlayStation: The First 30 Years, a deluxe book chronicling the creation of the very first PlayStation console. Anyone looking to celebrate in style can also preorder new shoes soon that "pay homage" to the PlayStation and are packaged inside of limited-edition boxes meant to evoke the console's original design."
Firmware 25.06-12.02.00 for PlayStation 5 applies security fixes and does not add major new features. Several updates across 2025 returned classic PlayStation console user interfaces and changed activity settings, with incremental improvements to the PS5 user experience. Sony marks the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation launch in the US and Europe with new collectibles and a deluxe book, PlayStation: The First 30 Years. Limited-edition shoes that pay homage to the original console design are available for preorder. Ghost of Yotei launches for PS5 on October 2. PS Plus will offer Alan Wake 2 and others next week, and PS Plus Premium will add Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 3, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary.
