NetEase Shutters MMO Studio Led By Former WoW Veteran After Two Years
"there is still a chance"
"While we'd love to make our game, our first priority is to help our developers find employment, whether that's at indie studio Fantastic Pixel Castle 2.0, or at many of the other fine (and hopefully stable) game and tech companies out there,"
Fantastic Pixel Castle will close on November 17 after NetEase withdrew funding, leaving Project Ghost without a publisher or sufficient financing. The studio attempted to secure a new publisher or raise funds but was unsuccessful, though continuation remains contingent on future funding and how many team members remain. The studio prioritized helping developers find employment, potentially at a reformed indie entity or other companies. Project Ghost was an early-stage, class-based MMORPG split into Blue Shards focused on survival, resource gathering, base-building and cooperative play, and Red Shards focused on traditional MMO group content, world bosses, and permanent world impact. The studio streamed early gameplay to content creators and sought community-focused multiplayer instead of solo play.
