"Arrowhead Game Studio CEO Shams Jorjani's ambition for Helldivers 2 is to keep it going forever. In a recent post on Discord (via GamesRadar), Jorjani wrote that there are "no plans for [Helldivers 3]--just [Helldivers 2] for as long as it can go." He went on to say, "Think RuneScape" to convey the idea of keeping the same game alive for years and years."
"A new Helldivers 2 update, Into the Unjust, launched earlier in September. There have been some issues since then, which led Arrowhead to temporarily remove the Rupture Strain subfaction. The studio also released a patch that tackled cave crashes and audio bugs. More recently, Arrowhead acknowledged a long list of problems to address, including "issues including performance drops, stability hiccups, freezes, and the annoying audio bugs.""
Helldivers 2 achieved major live-service success, amplified by a cross-platform Xbox Series X|S release. Arrowhead Game Studio intends to keep Helldivers 2 active indefinitely rather than produce Helldivers 3, using RuneScape as a longevity model. A previously noted Destiny-style social hub comment was clarified to refer to Arrowhead's next, unannounced game. The Into the Unjust update launched in September but introduced issues that required temporarily removing the Rupture Strain subfaction and deploying patches for cave crashes and audio bugs. Arrowhead acknowledged broader problems including performance drops and freezes, and scheduled an October update while noting some fixes may take longer.
