"Ghost of Yotei's developers embraced the fact that Rockstar chose to delay GTA 6 to 2026, thereby giving Sucker Punch's own game space in the fall season. Ghost of Yotei co-creative director Nate Fox was asked by MinnMaxx if the entire studio uncorked some champagne and celebrated the news in May 2025 when Rockstar announced GTA 6's delay. "We're all still hungover. Multi-month hangover. That was a great day," Fox said."
"At about 1:20 in the video, Fox is asked if Ghost of Yotei has just one playable character, Atsu. Fox quickly grabs his drink and sips it instead of answering, while staring coyly into the camera. People can read into that however they want, but it sure appears to be some kind of tease. Asked if he could rule out single-player DLC for Ghost of Yotei, Fox did not answer but stayed silent and looked at the camera with a sly look on his face."
Sony announced Ghost of Yotei's October 2, 2025 release in April 2025. Rockstar moved GTA 6 to May 2026, creating space for other fall releases and prompting celebration across the Ghost of Yotei studio, described as a "multi-month hangover." Several developers had considered shifting 2025 dates to avoid competing with GTA 6, which industry veterans labeled an "AAAAA" title with massive impact. A coy reaction to questions about additional playable characters and single-player DLC suggested potential future content. Ghost of Yotei will include a free Legends multiplayer mode launching in 2026, and Atsu will appear in an onsen scene.
