GoldenEye 007 remains an iconic game, yet its potential remaster has been thwarted by Nintendo's firm policies against third-party involvement. Nightdive Studios leader, Stephen Kick, conveyed his frustrations following failed negotiations, revealing that their efforts included assembling a skilled team and gaining MGM/Eon’s backing. However, complications arose when Nintendo denied permission, citing its strict policy against third-party remakes. Nightdive's Larry Kuperman acknowledged their successful history with Nintendo but noted the difficulty in negotiating exceptions with the company, which aims to maintain its business model intact.
Kick expressed profound disappointment about the failed remaster attempt, stating that after securing MGM/Eon, Nintendo's refusal halted the project despite their extensive efforts.
Kuperman highlighted that while Nightdive has collaborated with Nintendo previously, their remaster proposal was hindered by Nintendo's strict business philosophy regarding their properties.
