It's the ultimate trophy," he said, adding that he would stay for the rest of the event to cheer on his friends."
Players and fans of leading fighting video games gathered in Nice for Evo France, the first European edition of the Evolution Championship Series. Some 5,000 players from 93 countries competed across titles such as Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Tekken 8 for 100,000 euros in prize money and a spot at Capcom Cup 12 in Tokyo, which carries a $1.2 million pool. Competitors progressed through knockout rounds with the top eight reaching the main stage. Participants ranged from sponsored professionals to rising local talent, all aiming for prestige, recognition and advancement on the global esports circuit.
