"Unlike the previous two entries in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy that launched exclusively for PlayStation consoles--with Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions on the way--the third game will adopt a multiplatform release strategy. This means that Square Enix will be developing for multiple consoles and PC for a wide release, but the company doesn't expect this approach to hinder production on the game."
""We do have designated teams working on each platform so that our multiplatform approach won't impact the development whatsoever," Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi said to Easy Allies (via Eurogamer). Hamaguchi did acknowledge that Square Enix was facing some challenges with bringing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to Xbox Series X|S, suggesting that a "lack of memory" was to blame."
"While a release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S hasn't been revealed yet, the first game in the saga, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, will launch for both consoles on January 22. One of the new features here will be a progression boost that makes the game ridiculously easy to play, and it'll be added to the PC and PS5 versions via a future update."
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be released multiplatform across consoles and PC with designated teams for each platform to prevent development impact. Square Enix encountered memory limitations on Xbox Series X|S that created challenges for bringing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to that platform. Engineers are optimizing the Switch 2 version for docked and handheld modes and improving lighting to enhance graphical quality. No release date has been announced for Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Rebirth. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will launch on both consoles on January 22 and include a progression boost that will also be added to PC and PS5. Part 3 remains in development and will conclude the saga with a proper, high-quality finale despite Rebirth's disappointing sales.
