"These regulations are related to the limit of the data, and because there's that limit of the data, well, we are continually incorporating updates for Final Fantasy 14 and we are now approaching that limit,"
"And so for this limit that's in place, we have been asking Sony Interactive Entertainment from our side to increase that just for Final Fantasy 14, and they have kindly been doing that so far. But they've told us now that they are also reaching their limits. So I will repeat myself: I do want to provide support for platforms as long as possible."
"be sure to provide clear reasoning for that decision when I communicate it to the players."
Final Fantasy 14 launched on PC and PS3, with PS3 support ending after Stormblood in 2017. The game currently runs on PS4 and PS5. PS4 operating system and hardware regulations set by Sony impose a data limit that is constraining ongoing updates. Square Enix has requested Sony Interactive Entertainment to increase the PS4 data allowance specifically for Final Fantasy 14; Sony granted increases previously but now indicates those allowances are being reached. Continued support for older hardware is desired, but service on PS4 may have to end when technical limits are reached. Dawntrail released last year; the next expansion remains unannounced.
