"Last week, modders they had gotten custom servers online for the hero shooter over a year after Sony infamously shut the game down . While failed to gain the audience Sony was hoping for, it was really cool to think the game might get to live on thanks to fans' efforts, but it seems like Sony isn't as keen to let it come back."
"As TheGamePost reports, the two videos in question have been taken down after a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement, an anti-piracy and IP protection firm that files DMCAs on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. For the moment, the takedowns have affected only the YouTube videos, not the actual revival project itself. Despite this, the group does seem a bit spooked and has paused invites to its Discord server where it has been providing updates on the project."
"If Sony does try to shut the whole project down, that's some next-level pettiness toward fans trying to keep one of its games alive at no cost to PlayStation. You could argue that is Sony's IP and it might not want it in the hands of anyone else, even if it doesn't plan to do anything with it in the future."
Modders restored custom servers for a hero shooter more than a year after Sony shut the game down. Two YouTube videos showing the game on fan servers were removed after a copyright claim from MarkScan Enforcement. The DMCA takedowns have so far affected only videos, not the fan revival itself. The modding team paused Discord invites and expressed concern about possible legal consequences. Sony retains the game's intellectual property and could seek to block the revival even if it has no current plans for the title. No public comment has been issued by Sony yet.
