"We are looking into it, and we have plans to try to scope out what that work is going to entail for us,"
"It's just not in the immediate plans for us. We know players want it."
"It's just huge technical hurdles that are things that you tackle before release, during your actual development of the product...so going back and retrofitting it to do that, when you have different places that players are pointing into, and now you're having to worry about entitlements and account purchases and currency."
Bethesda is investigating adding crossplay to Fallout 76 but has no immediate plans to implement it. Retrofitting crossplay post-launch presents substantial technical challenges that are typically addressed during initial development. Issues include reconciling platform endpoints, entitlements, account purchases, in-game currency, and differing player entry points. Cross-progression exists and remains a higher priority. Historical platform restrictions and the scope of required engineering work have delayed crossplay efforts. The upcoming February 11 update will not include crossplay, and no near-term timeline has been announced for enabling cross-platform play.
