George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, faces intense criticism for his prolonged delay in completing the series since the last book was published in 2011. Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher series, has weighed in on this issue, sharing insights on the challenges Martin faces, especially after the disappointing conclusion of HBO's Game of Thrones. Sapkowski sympathizes with Martin, understanding the conflict between adaptations and original works. He suggests that Martin's lack of progress may stem from disillusionment with the adaptation process, despite the financial benefits it brings.
If it's already been done, right? Makes no sense. It's nice when they adapt your work, that's the author's bloody right, but to adapt what doesn't exist yet, to extrapolate like that? That's just indecent.
I totally understand him. Because if someone had pulled a stunt like that on me, filming a series based on my books, and then getting ahead of what I intended to write, I'd also be wondering whether there's any point in writing anymore.
