Elder Scrolls 6 Will Run On Creation Engine 3, Confirms Todd Howard
""We spent the last, you know, several years bringing Creation Engine 2, which powers Starfield, up to Creation Engine 3. That's going to power Elder Scrolls 6 and beyond," said Todd. "Um, and you know, obviously we do all the rendering things. We're really happy with the new stuff that we're doing, but also kind of world systems loading, how we bring things into the world, how we get that detail close to the camera kind of immediately.""
"was the only game to run on Creation Engine 2, so it's interesting to heard that Bethesda immediately began shifting to a newer version of their engine already, considering how long they held on to the original Creation Engine. It makes sense, though. Starfield represented a fairly big leap compared to the original version of the engine, but it still felt archaic compared to other engines on the market."
Elder Scrolls 6 will run on Creation Engine 3, an upgrade derived from Creation Engine 2 that powered Starfield. Bethesda spent several years evolving Creation Engine 2 into Creation Engine 3. The upgrade targets rendering enhancements, improved world systems loading, faster asset streaming, and getting high-detail assets near the camera immediately. Creation Engine 3 will power Elder Scrolls 6 and future projects. Starfield was the only game on Creation Engine 2, and the studio moved toward the newer engine despite a long history with the original Creation Engine. Starfield showed progress but still lagged behind competing engines.
