Fans of Dragon Age have long awaited a remaster or remake of the original games, a hope invigorated by the success of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Former BioWare executive Mark Darrah confirmed that there were various soft pitches made to EA for remastering the first Dragon Age games but faced obstacles due to EA's unwillingness to fund such projects. Darrah noted that EA publicly dislikes remakes and remasters, leading to the challenges faced in getting approval. A specific proposal was made to collaborate with mod companies to remake Dragon Age: Origins, yet these pitches were consistently rejected by EA.
I don't think they will, but I think they should do a remaster of the first three. One of the things that we pitched at one point pretty softly, was to kind of retroactively, rebrand the first three games as if they were a trilogy. Call it, like, the Champions Trilogy.
It's strange for a publicly traded company to basically seem to be against free money. But they seem to be against it.
EA's stance was probably sure, go ahead and do it, but do it with the money you already have. And it's like, well, we can't do it with the money that we already have because we're doing all these other things.
There was even a pitch for handing over the Frostbite toolset to a mod company to let them remake Dragon Age: Origins. However, EA never seemed interested in any of the pitches.
