EA Abandons One Of The Longest-Running Racing Franchises After 25 Years
Briefly

Codemasters has officially announced the cessation of future Dirt Rally game development, marking the end of a 25-year legacy beginning in 1998. Following the acquisition by EA in 2021, the studio confirmed that no new updates or expansions will be released for the 2023 EA Sports WRC rally game, which succeeds the Dirt series related to the prior Colin McRae Rally franchise. Codemasters expressed gratitude to fans for their support throughout the years, while promising continued availability of their last rally title.
Thank you to all the fans who have and continue to be part of our rally journey.
This game acted as a successor to the Dirt series, which itself had connections to the studio's earlier Colin McRae Rally franchise.
Our [World Rally Championship] partnership was a culmination of sorts for our Codemasters journey with off-road racing.
For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles.
