Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake updates the original turn-based JRPG gameplay with enhanced combat assistance and new item systems. Players encounter monsters across an overworld and dungeons and use spells and skills in turn-based battles. An optional menu setting can suggest optimal actions and display text above enemies indicating effective moves. New Scrolls let specific characters learn additional spells and skills from treasure chests. The five sigils—Sun, Star, Moon, Water, and Soul—return and grant in-battle effects once collected; in Dragon Quest I they're earned via a fairy quest and in II via the mission to defeat Hargon. The remake launches October 30 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and Switch, with no upgrade path between Switch releases.
