Doom: The Dark Ages Update Makes Its Horde Mode More Customizable (And Shareable)
"The Ripatorium was introduced in August as a time-based horde mode that gave players the ability to customize enemy encounters. In Doom: The Dark Ages Update 3, the Ripatorium is now a round-based arena where players can fully customize how each round will play out. Players can choose to have up to five rounds of enemy encounters, with up to 10 waves of enemies each."
"Other changes are relatively minor, like tweaks to line of sight in arenas and icons now appearing over the heads of the last few remaining enemies in a round. The addition of a passcode system for Ripatorium will make it so players can easily share their demonic arenas with others. Developer Id Software said it will be looking to curate some of the best custom encounters in order to make community-made Ripatorium presets."
Update 3 converts the Ripatorium from a time-based horde mode into a round-based arena where players can fully customize each round. Players can set up to five rounds with up to ten waves per round, tweak line of sight in arenas, and see icons over the heads of the last remaining enemies. A passcode system enables easy sharing of custom arenas, and Id Software plans to curate standout community presets. Combat updates allow instant swapping between Shield Runes and melee weapons, add Brink of Death Normal and Hard options, and adjust campaign encounters and enemy attacks including the Cacodemon.
