Doom: The Dark Ages is surprisingly playable on the Steam Deck

The recent update of SteamOS enabled Doom: The Dark Ages to launch on the Steam Deck, a feat considered unlikely due to the game’s high hardware requirements. Testing revealed that with graphics set to 'Low' and FSR upscaling on 'Performance', the game achieved 30 to 40 fps at 1280×800 resolution. While this is below the optimal experience found on high-end PCs, the performance is surprisingly commendable for the Steam Deck, suggesting potential for improved settings if adapted specifically for the device.

Over the weekend, Valve released a preview build of a new version of SteamOS that allows Doom: The Dark Ages to actually launch on the Steam Deck.

With all the graphical quality sliders set to 'Low'... I was able to run Doom: The Dark Ages at the system's native 1280×800 resolution and a reasonably steady 30 to 40 fps.
