Borderlands 4 represents a significant shift for the franchise, introducing a more mature tone and gameplay overhaul while retaining the looting and shooting mechanics fans love. Set on the new planet Kairos, the game combines familiar elements with an expansive open-world design, eliminating loading screens for seamless exploration. However, it faces challenges in filling the vast landscape with engaging content. As players experience both new and returning characters and settings, the title aims to redefine the Borderlands experience, albeit some critics feel it sacrifices too much of its essence in the process.
Let me start with something I like. Borderlands 4 is a vast, beautiful sci-fi game... Exploration, the hunt for quirky optional fights or hidden (hopefully red) chests has been greatly enhanced.
Borderlands 4... marks a new era for Borderlands, and while it still offers that same lootin' and shootin' richness as you'd expect, I can't help but feel some meaty chunk of its soul has been thrown out the window.
