2K Games has confirmed that Borderlands 4 will be priced at $70/£60 at launch, a decision that deviates from the trend of increasing game prices. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford sparked controversy with statements suggesting real fans should financially commit to games, prompting backlash that highlighted deeper issues in gaming costs. Although Pitchford attempted to clarify his remarks, the initial communication was poorly received. There will also be premium editions available, priced up to $129.99, which include additional content.
When asked about pricing, Pitchford said it wasn't in his purview, but also added that "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen..."
His later explanation raised plenty of good points about the state of the industry, rising budgets, wages, development time etc. all coming together to justify the increased price-point.
