BioShock 4 Studio Laying Off Devs As Diablo Boss Takes Over

BioShock 4 failed an internal review, resulting in Kelley Gilmore's exit from Cloud Chamber and subsequent layoffs at the studio. Rod Fergusson, formerly of Diablo, is appointed as the new head of Cloud Chamber. 2K Games president David Ismailer emphasized the importance of the BioShock franchise, indicating a decision to rework core gameplay aspects. Ismailer proclaimed the layoffs as opportunities for remaining developers to focus on development and confirmed Fergusson's leadership role and plans regarding franchise extensions and partnerships, including a Netflix film collaboration.
While we're excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we've made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game.
As Head of the BioShock Franchise, Rod will lead Cloud Chamber and oversee the development of the next BioShock game, as well as franchise extensions including our film partnership with Netflix.
