Battlefield 6 will launch without ray tracing as the development focus shifted to performance and optimization for default settings and users. The decision to omit ray tracing was made early in development to ensure broad playability. A meaningful percentage of beta players ran minimum recommended specs or lower, making minimum-spec support a commercial priority. Secure Boot is required on PC to deter cheaters and aid detection, though it prevented some players from joining the beta. EA published PC specs, playtest leaks revealed larger maps and a battle royale mode, and the game launches October 10 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
"That was because we wanted to focus on performance," Buhl said. "We wanted to make sure that all of our effort was focused on making the game as [optimized] as possible for the default settings and default users."
"Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs," Bruhl said. "It's super important from both a commercial and business perspective--we want as many people as possible playing the game."
