Avatar DLC Hands-On: How The New Movie Sets Frontiers Of Pandora's World Aflame
"Alongside the movie hitting theaters comes From the Ashes, an expansion for the game that tells a new story that incorporates major elements from the film, while also shaking up Frontiers' take on Pandora in some very big ways. Massive worked closely with Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, to bring the stories of the movie and the game a little closer together."
""With From the Ashes, we were very closely aligned with Lightstorm on where they're taking the tone of the franchise--it's becoming very dark," Aoife O'Friel, From the Ashes' narrative director, told me in an interview. "And so we wanted to mirror that and link with that as much as possible. And so From the Ashes also has that darkness and a kind of vengeful edge to it.""
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora originally built an original narrative set on the opposite side of Pandora rather than retelling the films. The game brought Pandora's dense, visually rich environments and Na'vi cultures into interactive form but felt somewhat disconnected from the movies. From the Ashes expansion arrives with Avatar: Fire and Ash and integrates major elements from the film while substantially altering Frontiers' depiction of Pandora. The expansion was developed in close alignment with Lightstorm Entertainment to echo the franchise's darker, vengeful tone. The expansion centers on the Mongkwan Ash people, a warlike Na'vi clan allied with the RDA, and depicts a renewed RDA push across Pandora shortly after the film's events.
