As Switch 2 looms, I visited the new Nintendo Museum to explore the game icon's past
Briefly

The Nintendo Museum, located near the company's headquarters in Kyoto, showcases its history, including rare prototypes and game evolution videos. Access is limited due to high demand, with tickets via lottery and strict security measures in place. While some criticize the museum for lacking comprehensive signage, it still offers a curated experience. Highlights include exhibitions on Nintendo's experimental approach, which influenced the design of the recently launched Switch 2, alongside its predecessors like the Wii U.
It's telling how experimental Nintendo has been over the years, and at times, as Wii U shows, a willingness to make mistakes and learn from them.
Despite valid criticism regarding the lack of insightful signage, it's unfair to say it's not curated.
While Switch 2 may not feel as weird as Wii U or as novel as Wii, both informed the design of Switch and its successor.
One of my highlights is a looping video installation where Nintendo shows side-by-side comparisons of a game series and how it has evolved across generations.
