Ark 2 has faced multiple delays from an initial 2023 launch through proposed 2024 and 2027 windows, and is now slated for 2028. Studio Wildcard plans a late 2027 update called Legacy of Santiago to introduce and test new Soulslike third-person melee combat and other mechanics ahead of Ark 2. Legacy of Santiago will experiment with combat but will not include the full narrative world-building intended for Ark 2. Jeremy Stieglitz presented the timeline at Snail Games' investor day. Casting for the franchise has shifted, with Karl Urban now associated with Ark: Survival Evolved.
