Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released five years ago, remains the best-selling title in the franchise with nearly 48 million copies sold. Despite its popularity, Nintendo has not offered major updates since 2021. Observing past release patterns, it appears likely there will be less delay between New Horizons and its successor than occurred previously. Fans are eager for news, especially with the upcoming April presentation for Nintendo's Switch 2, though it is uncertain if Animal Crossing will be highlighted during the event.
It’s been exactly five years since Nintendo released Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the best-selling Animal Crossing game in Nintendo's history.
Events continue, and smaller updates were released later, but otherwise, there's been little or no new content to show.
It makes sense that timing between games would increase as technology becomes more complex and games become bigger, but I think it's unlikely we'll see a gap that big between New Horizons and whatever is next.
I would be surprised; the focus of the event is the console itself - and a new Animal Crossing game would likely overshadow so much of it all.
